St. Mark’s Episcopal School is currently led by Interim Head, Mr. Scott Laird, as we embark on the search for a new Head of School. This marks a thrilling phase in our journey of growth and innovation.

St. Mark’s Episcopal School is actively seeking a visionary leader who is committed to a long-term tenure. We take immense pride in our esteemed and dedicated faculty and administration, renowned academic program, close-knit community, and picturesque campus, all of which set St. Mark’s apart and attract potential leaders.

To ensure the utmost professionalism and expertise in the search process, we have engaged the reputable firm Educational Directions. With their extensive experience in recruiting leaders for independent schools and their distinguished reputation for excellence, we are confident in their ability to guide us. The Head of School Search Committee will oversee their work.

We value the input of our community tremendously throughout this process. All stakeholders will have the opportunity to actively engage and provide their insights. We are committed to creating opportunities for the community and faculty to meet the top candidates and offer their valuable feedback to the Search Committee. SEARCH CONSULTANTS

Our Head of School search process will be overseen by Mike Murphy and Jay Underwood of Educational Directions. With input from our many constituents, they will structure the leadership profile for our next Head of School. They will then recruit, interview, and vet candidates for the Head of School Search Committee’s consideration. Founded in 1986, Educational Directions works exclusively with independent schools.

TIMELINE

  • May: The Position Profile has been published and shared with our community and with prospective candidates.
  • June-Mid August: Our search consultants will recruit candidates who fit the criteria and qualities detailed in the profile. Along with advertising the position on independent school career sites, they will tap into their extensive networks to reach the best candidates and will conduct thorough interviews and preliminary reference calls.
  • Mid-Late August: The search committee will review a small group of “high-potential” candidates presented by our consultants.
  • Early September: From the small group of candidates, the search committee will narrow the pool to a small number of semi-finalists who will visit St. Mark’s and interview with the search committee, who then will select up to 3 finalists.
  • Mid-Late September: Finalists will each visit campus for two-day interviews. As a critical part of the process, parents, teachers, staff, and administrators will all have the opportunity to meet with candidates and give feedback about them through a community survey that will inform the search committee in its deliberations.
  • October: The new head will be named and will begin their tenure on July 1, 2025.
